Clint Dempsey Still in a Title Hunt

WCQ - Barbados v United States

Tomorrow, Clint Dempsey’s Fulham will play the second-leg of their Europa League semifinal.  The first match, at Hamburg, was a remarkably exciting 0-0 tie.

The German club, desperately seeking a goal, threw players forward for most of the game.  Fulham were content to sit in a defensive shell, but unlike many teams employing that tactic, they sought to maintain possession when they had the ball.

Dempsey, who came on in the 52nd minute, spent much of his time dropping into Fulham’s half to defend and start counterattacks.  With a little luck he could have had a goal and an assist.  In the 60th he was in a perfect position to score, but a teammate’s pass was picked off right before it reached him.  Four minutes later Dempsey’s own pass was inches away from creating a perfect shooting opportunity for fellow striker Zoltan Gera.

Dempsey will hope to make up for those lost opportunities tomorrow.  Look for a full analysis Friday.

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
