In our Gringo of the Week series, FFG highlights an American whose performance helped his team earn a crucial result.
Gringo of the Week: Brad Friedel
Friedel retired from international soccer what seems like ages ago (it was only 2005). But Aston Villa fan are certainly pleased he can devote his full attention to their club, and, today – in Villa’s 1-0 victory over Everton, he needed all the energy his thirty-nine-year-old body could muster. While he only made six saves, two were quite spectacular and he also authoritatively dealt with a number of crosses as Everton frantically sought an equalizer in the dying minutes.
Honorable Mention:
Tim Howard – At times no less inspirational than his counterpart Friedel, Howard kept Everton in the match with a desperate paw of a save, as can be seen in the highlights below.
DaMarcus Beasley- No, ‘Beas didn’t play this weekend, but he did ‘take his talents’ to Hannover, Germany. If the club ends up offering him a contract, he’d be playing alongside Steve Cherundolo, Hannover’s captain.
