In our Gringo of the Week series, FFG highlights an American whose performance helped his team earn a crucial result

Gringo of the Week: Landon Donovan

Prior to Saturday’s match against DC United, the LA Galaxy had lost or drawn 6 of their last 8 MLS matches, and on Saturday they were down 1-0 heading into the final 10 minutes, leaving their fans little hope of a win. But then the man who launched a thousand celebrations took over. Landon Donovan, repeating his World Cup heroics, scored in the 81st and 86th minutes to hand his squad three points.

Honorable Mention

Clint Dempsey: London club Fulham were not terribly impressive in their first match without starting striker Bobby Zamora, but though Fulham went down early, Clint Dempsey managed to rescue a draw with a 56th minute equalizer.

Benny Feilhaber: Feilhaber may be stuck in the Danish 2nd division, but he hasn’t let the frustration of failing to move on to a bigger club impact his play. This weekend Feilhaber scored AGF Aarhus’ lone goal in a 1-1 draw.
