In our Gringo of the Week series, FFG highlights an American whose performance helped his team earn a crucial result.

Gringo of the Week: Omar Gonzalez

The LA Galaxy center back is making a name for himself as a defensive stopper, but this past Saturday his offensive production may have helped break the Galaxy out of a funk. Heading into the match, LA had lost four of their last six matches and, down 1-0 late in the game, appeared on their way to a fifth defeat. In stoppage time, Gonzalez managed to put his head on a Landon Donovan cross to salvage the point. If Gonzalez can become a consistent threat off set pieces, he’ll greatly increase his value to US manager Bob Bradley.

Honorable Mention

Kevin Alston: Three days after scoring in a 2-1 loss against Mexican club Morelia in the Superliga final, Alston helped create New England’s first goal in a 3-1 victory over Seattle.

Kevin Hartman: FC Dallas’ goalkeeper made a few outstanding saves to ensure the home side secured all three points in a 1-0 win against Toronto FC.
