Holden Returns, Beasley on His Way Out

Damarcus Beasley Rangers 2009/10

Stuart Holden, out since February with a broken leg, came on as a substitute in Bolton Wanderers’ final match, making his return in the 66th minute.  According to ESPN’s match report, he appeared fit and even “sent a shot narrowly wide of the post in the 70th minute.”

Holden will look to build on the few performances he had with Bolton (due to injury he only appeared in 2 Premier League matches), and US manager Bob Bradley will be pleased with his fitness, as Holden could wind up a starter in South Africa.

In Scotland, DaMarcus Beasley looks to have played his last game for Rangers.  This afternoon the winger tweeted, “Yes Im leaving for everyone that asked. Will never forget my time at RANGERS!!”

The winger never made a permanent place for himself at the club.  He mixed stretches of superb form – among them a winter 2009 stretch of 4 assists and 2 goals in only 5 matches – with much longer periods of inactivity, either through injury or exclusion from the match-day squad.  Beasley will be an interesting case for Bob Bradley. He’s an experienced international and can still be a major contributor on his day, but his inconsistency could lead to Bradley looking to other midfield options.

The manager will release the provisional World Cup roster by Tuesday, the 11th.  This squad could consist of up to 30 players, though Bradley has implied he might hand out only 26-28 invitations. Those players will participate in the pre-cup training camp starting May 15th.

The final 23-man roster will be announced June 1st.

When will the all-mighty bob actually announce the team lineup?

Where is Beasley headed? Back to US?

I’m assuming FforG will post the provisional roster as soon as public?

He doesn’t appear to have been linked with anyone just yet. His contract will expire this summer, so it will be interesting to see which clubs make an offer.

We will certainly post the roster as soon as we see it!
