KC 2 – CO 0 (Again): More KC Defensive Pressure (Again)

In Kansas City’s 2-0 win in the first leg, their high pressing led to numerous interceptions in Colorado’s half, allowing them to thwart any Colorado attempts at intricate build-up play. Kansas City didn’t let up in the second leg. In fact, their opening goal tonight was initially created through an interception by Aurélien Collin (as well as tricky footwork from CJ Sapong, leading to a free kick). Their pressing prevented Colorado from generating meaningful scoring opportunities. The Rapids’ measly 9 total shots (4 on target) belied their slight possession advantage. Kansas City notched 12 shots (7 on target) even though they only had 45% of possession.

If Kansas City can keep up the intense pressing, they’re going to be tough to beat in the Eastern Conference Final.

Editor’s note: For some reason, the usually reliable MLSsoccer.com chalkboards aren’t up and running for this particular match. I’ll add a visual stat just as soon as I notice the chalkboards are working.

Update: It’s been 3 days now and the chalkboard for this game still isn’t working.

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
