Landon Donovan: Touch Tracker

Yesterday we examined the tactical reasons for Wayne Rooney’s inability to influence the match, but what of USA’s No. 10? FFG was there to catalog every Landon Donovan touch.

Blue is positive, yellow neutral, and red negative. The number represents the minute in which the play occurred and an arrow indicates the player dribbled forward with the ball.

Hover your mouse over the individual circles for descriptions of what Donovan did on a given touch (please email me, blakeowen@futbolforgringos.com, if this is not working for you).

Donovan also took all of USA’s corners (some good, some bad), but since they’re right on top of each other I couldn’t display them in the diagram.

2nd Half

What do you think, gringos?  Was his performance sufficient or does Donovan need to do more if the US wants to advance?

Your brother Dale told me to check this out. Your site is truly unique. I’ll be following. I think that Donovan was a very important part of our draw with England, and that he’ll do well in this World Cup. :)
