USA – Honduras Preview

Serene USMNT chief Jurgen Klinsmann isn’t too ruffled yet despite not pulling a win out of his first 3 matches, but USA fans will be looking for a more productive offense when USA takes on Honduras at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. As with the previous matches under Klinsmann, tomorrow’s showdown will be more about tweaking the new machinery and less about an all-out push for victory.

Let’s take a look at the available players.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Timmy Chandler (Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Oguchi Onyewu (Sporting Lisbon), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls), Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Chievo Verona), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Jeff Larentowicz (Colorado Rapids), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim)
FORWARDS (5): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt), Teal Bunbury (Sporting Kansas City)

It wouldn’t be a true FFG match preview if we didn’t take a stab at the starting XI. It’s become a bit of a tradition, in fact, and our readers have proven to be quite prophetic in their own speculations. Was that a challenge?

The last minute twist this time around was the sudden exclusion of Donovan due to “injury” (read–MLS playoffs looming), who was replaced by Edson Buddle. Holden’s much anticipated return, of course, took a disastrous turn, which seems to have given Michael Bradley a breath of fresh air.

Without further ado, here’s our shot at who will be gracing the field at kickoff. We’re calling a 4-2-3-1 with Bradley in the trequartista role behind Altodore:

We are likely to see an evolving version of the 4-2-3-1 versus Honduras. Will the pretty play yield some goals?

OK Gringos, take your shots! What have we got wrong?

It’s such a weird midfield group. Everyone is either a holding player or a winger.

I just want to see Gooch on the field. It’d be great if he could recapture his Confed Cup form.
